My fellow enthusiasts - HEY! Just found this site and am pretty excited that there are a bunch of guys that are like me....not quite normal! LOL! I do have a serious question though. About six years or go (give or take a couple of years) I saw an ad in one of the VW mags for a set of baja fenders that use the stock hole location for mounting, but have a very tall lip so they end up actually being about 3 inches higher than stock. Does anyone know where to find a set of these? I need to have a higher fender for clearance, but really want to use the stock mounting holes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

That is true... Did nto see that... I have seen the fenders that he is talking about. the fenders look a little od as the set out and the fact you have a huge 3" canyon/gap between the fenders and the body. I have not seen them in years. but who knows they do show up every know and then, Take the hood on T-Towns Baja. I have only seen it once before and that was years ago.

Speaking of hoods, I have an unusual one. It has a replica of a cobra air intake molded into it. I have never seen another one. Someone told me it was made early '70s.....along with my body kit. I have some of the widest fenders I have ever seen. I used them for many years, but I want to pull them off (and save them all) and have more functional fenders. The ones I remember seeing in the magazine had the inner fender lip that ran along the body. The mounting lip is about four inches wide as opposed to one inch. Thanks for the responses....I am going to try and go through all my mags......which usually takes forever cuz I start daydreaming looking at al lthe pictures etc...and then five hours later I realize that I was looking for something...LOL!

Oh and Welcome Very Happy

The Baja race fenders do mount above the stock holes.
Years back a lot of companies were making fenders.
Now it pretty much just one company that has vendors.

So anything is possible. Currently the fenders that come in Baja kits bolt right into the stock holes and do give you more clearance than stock.
I hope that helps and welcome to azbaja.com
You will find some good folks on this site.
