well i dont know much about the swap from bus to bug but here goes. it wont go into any gear? have a friend sit inside the car and try to put into gear while your under the car. see if the linkage is bending or shifting in any way to keep it from goin into gear if nothing is wrong there. disconnect the shifter and try to put it into gear. let me know what happens. I dont know what to tell you and the axle except to replace it.

Under the car won't help... you need to be IN the car. If the your car has the bus trans and your shifter is on top of the tunnel then there should be a big hole cut inside the car where the nose cone of the trans comes through. You might try to move the car b hans slightly while someone tries to put the car in gear. If the axle of the car was broken from abuse then you might also have some internal trans breakage, might also be the problem with not shifting.

Bugzyla always has some good info...

Some, maybe all, bus transaxles have the flanges offset from centerline and require a different length axle on one side than the other. I know this existed on 68-71 not sure of later units. There should be about a 1/4” difference if I remember right. Double check that your axles are the right length.
Try disconnecting your shift linkage and sift the trans by hand. This will eliminate internal and external problems.

2333cc is the engine size. Largest type one from factory was 1600 and type four went to 2000, so you have a large performance engine in there.
