its alot more work that has to be done on a h2o engine, vdub, just swap it out...its a personal decision in what you want to run. i made my decision on that i wanted something that would be reliable and little mantenance. plus, this has about 130 to 150 hp and close to 200 torque Cool

if you want HP and your choise is between a Nissan and a Toyota I'd definitly go with the 22R Toyota. But I'm a little bias too! (Tacoma owner)

Hi
I am also interested in changing to h2o. I have been told that a Jetta 1800 is a good option.
Also with baja's being light on the front end, will a water cooled engine be heavier? Shocked

In a word......YES

The engine is heavier, then add in the weight of the adapter plate, radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, engine mounts, etc. Then add in the complexity of the radiator mounting, running of coolant hoses, electric fan, fabricating engine mounts, etc. (did I leave anything out Rob?)

Is it worth the weight and extra work? Since a lot of people do it, I would say probably. I had a FAT 1600 Rabbit engine in my old rail/class 10 car; it was expensive, but fun.

In Mexico, they say the Jetta engine bolts up to a Mexican 091, so you can save on the adapter, if you can get a trans.

Hi Valid reasons. So if I decide to go ahead, what can I do, which is not too expensive, regarding the heavier rear; which will make the front even lighter?
Also, if I decide to stick with this engine; a bigger bore? But how far can you go? I want pretty good MPG + more power/torgue.
Thanks

if your worried about gas mileage, leave it stock and just add headers and a better intake manifold, maybe upgrade the cam shaft for more torque...
