Hey all, Im new to the forums but not new to bugs by any means. Im 22 and hail from Tucson/Phoenix az, now being in the air force Im stationed at Ellsworth AFB South Dakota (YUK!)

My first car was a 74 Super Beetle and then I got 2 others afterwards which were Bajas.. I loved my bugs and learned a lot about them and engines etc with them. I was forced to sell them due to hardships before I shipped out for basic (boot camp) I want to get another baja SO BAD but I dont know where to find one around here, how well do they handle in the snow/cold weather??

Hit me up with questions or whatever I want to be active on these forums!

from what I have been told the baja's are really decent in snow. I just got one and I am planing to move north. I wa told that when it snows just put about 120lbs in your front end and it'll plow throw 2 ft of snow w/o a problem because all of their weight is over the rear wheels

I have had multiple experiences in snow, and in my personal opinion you could'nt ask for ask for anything more. As long as you have a good set of tires and drive responsibly your in good shape.

how about the fact the engine is exposed to all the cold and weather? Would just your typical block heater work? I supposed Id have to get some good all weather cables like for the distributor and fuel lines etc.. how about snow/ice on the carbs? flapper over the stinger exhaust?

Try thesamba.com for a Baja.
A far as snow I would think you'll be fine if your careful.
I use a spray paint lid over my stinger but you have to have the small diameter one. A PVC pipe cap works good over the larger ones. 3 inch I think. Just try to remember to pull it off before starting the motor, or you'll have to find it in the snow.

oh yeah. ummm you pretty much have to have the transmission built to do those speeds. some tranny's are built to have low top speeds but with shorter gears. you can gear a bug to do 140 - 160 these days you just have to find some one to do it. you also have to have the power to handle the taller gears.

Been there... ever try to stop from that speed on stock beetle brakes? It's spooky, even in a 1200lb car. Shocked

I spent a lot of time in Boston. My 73 VW did well for me during the blizzard of 1987. I was out and about while others were socked in.
