Ok so the project is going SLOOOOWWW! But I have finally gotten a chance to doing a little work.

OK the question; (kinda for Don but I welcome ANY input)

Looking at the Project Baja build on the Chirco website, I noticed you build a seat bace straight to the roll cage and the center hump. I have chosen a different route. Mainly because I haven't done the cage yet. I am using the universal seat mount (without the sliders) from Chirco.

www.chircoestore.com/c...ts_id=4934

I have fab'ed a way to mount the seat that I have to the mount.

Now the question, besides the obvious bolt it to the pan, what is the best way to mount the "frame" to the pan? Should I remove the factory seat mount to gain a better mounting spot or just mount the front "legs" in front of the factory stuff?

Sorry I missed this topic.

These seat mounts are very universial so mounting them is up to you.
I just like to see the mounting points re-inforced so the first time you hit a bump,, the seat mount does not tear out.

We have seen people weld flat strap under the car and to the bottom of the tunnel the to the outside of the pan to help the strength.

Any other opions out there?

Thanks Don.
I didn't think about reinforcing the mounts. Do you think I should spend the time taking the stock mount out or just work around it? I finished up mounting the seat to the seat mount last night, I'll try to get some picts up tonight.

Yoy probally can work around it so you don't weaken the floor pan when popping out the spot welds.

Mike -

If possible, see if you could mount your frame to the pan, but also fab up a way to integrated it with the factory mounts. Thus giving your seat mounts a larger footprint on the pan. This will give you strength and a better mouting 'apparatus'.

Possibly tie your mounts into the pan, and run cross plates to tie into the factory mounts...just a thought

Laughing the apparatus will be secure! Laughing

I think I have enough room to work around the factory stuff. I'll weld some flat stock to the pan and bolt it up. Eventually I think I'd like to tie it in to the cage, when I get one, like Don's "project Baja"

I am planning on taking out all of the tar crap. Once I'm done doing that I'm going to spray it with Durabak, it's a bed liner stuff. It's about $80-120 a gallon, depending on the color and it comes in about 16 different colors. A lot of the Jeep guys do something like it.

The BUGBOMB plate is from my 1st Baja, I just stuck it on this one to tow it so wouldn't get pulled over. I think the new one will be BUGBOM2, if it's available.
