I have ben looking at a lot of sites and I would like to go water cooled but Iam not sure I wont to go with a suby, witch seems to be the most popular, I do have a nissan 2.0 witch I would like to try, Any info and or personel experiences. would help.

its alot more work that has to be done on a h2o engine, vdub, just swap it out...its a personal decision in what you want to run. i made my decision on that i wanted something that would be reliable and little mantenance. plus, this has about 130 to 150 hp and close to 200 torque Cool

I am looking for cheep reliable horsepower, switching to water cooled is not a big deal,mostly wont reliabilety. O and hourse power!

if you want HP and your choise is between a Nissan and a Toyota I'd definitly go with the 22R Toyota. But I'm a little bias too! (Tacoma owner)

you what reliable, hows this...i bought my 22r with over 230k miles on it, i had daryll's engine guy go through it and when he miced the crank it was perfect...all he did was repolish the journeys.... Cool

I am also interested in changing to h2o. I have been told that a Jetta 1800 is a good option.
Also with baja's being light on the front end, will a water cooled engine be heavier? Shocked

In a word......YES

The engine is heavier, then add in the weight of the adapter plate, radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, engine mounts, etc. Then add in the complexity of the radiator mounting, running of coolant hoses, electric fan, fabricating engine mounts, etc. (did I leave anything out Rob?)

Is it worth the weight and extra work? Since a lot of people do it, I would say probably. I had a FAT 1600 Rabbit engine in my old rail/class 10 car; it was expensive, but fun.

In Mexico, they say the Jetta engine bolts up to a Mexican 091, so you can save on the adapter, if you can get a trans.

I have thot about this for a long time, And it looks to be a little time consuming and expensive but worth it. Who sells adapter plates, other than kep.

yes to takes a little more time, but you will like the difference. as far a cost, after selling off my vdub stuff, i have about 1600,1700 in the swap total. Very Happy Cool

Hi Valid reasons. So if I decide to go ahead, what can I do, which is not too expensive, regarding the heavier rear; which will make the front even lighter?
Also, if I decide to stick with this engine; a bigger bore? But how far can you go? I want pretty good MPG + more power/torgue.

if your worried about gas mileage, leave it stock and just add headers and a better intake manifold, maybe upgrade the cam shaft for more torque...
