in AZ you have to have

windshield
headlights
tail lights
brake lights
seat belts
properly working brakes, etc

turn signals can be your arms/ hands (middle finger is not a stop signal)

pretty much its the very basics for raod worthyness to pass in AZ. then the MVD sticks an official AZ "vin" on the buggy out of harms way. they shred if you peel em off.

You also need a functioning windshiels wiper. I am going to DMV tomorrow to inquire, so I will post an update.

why would you need windshield wipers ? it doesn't rain in az. and how many of us would be driving around in a buggy in the rain ? now that i said that, that sounds like fun.... Razz

They only do an idle test for vehicles that are 83 and older. The cut off year maybe wrong but I know for sure its an idle test for older cars.

You sure I used to have to put the Baja '67 and the duster '74 both on the roller mill.

My baja fits. The rollers will fit a full size duely truck and even with 3x3 arms your baja will not be that wide.

They roller test my 70. The cut off is 67. 66 and older get a pass. That's why I like my 65 Ghia!!! They don't even look at it!!!! They just collect the money.

I pretty much cut every thing off my bug that made it a 67. so I had a 65 bug and tittle. Now the vin for my car is a 65. go figure

If the truck is a full time 4x4 they cant roller test it cuz they cant get both axles on the roller at the same time.

Anyway, I made the trip to the DMV today and here are the requirements for getting your rail, buggy, or street rod registered (all considered a reconstructed or home built vehicle).

1 Horn
2 Rearview Mirror
3 Winshield (safety glass, not plexi or lexan)
4 Windshield Wiper (squeegee wont cut it no more, I asked)
5 Foot Brake
6 Hand Brake (must be on a separate hydraulic circuit, or cable operated)
7 Muffler
8 Headlights
9 Tail Lights
10 Stop Lights
11 License Plate Light

After your vehicle meets these minimum state requirements, your vehicle will have to go through a level 2/3 inspection ($55-$75)
