its a pain in my ass to keep taking my trailer out all the time. how many of you guys flat tow your bug to your playing spot? is it safe to tow flat for a while? or should i just suck it up and use the trailer every time?
since i live in maricopa i have a 55 mile trip 1 way to four peaks and sycomore. would it be ok to tow that far?

I've always used a tow bar, never had a trailer. Never gone 55 miles, but never had a problem. although I would like one because if i'm out and break a rim or an axle or something that prohibits the wheels from rolling straight it'll be a drag home

I have flat towed many a VW over the years. You shouldnt have any problems. The only thing I do for long distance tows is tie the shifter so it cant accidently slip into gear, or get knocked into gear. I had a rail one time that liked to vibrate into 4th gear by itself. You can get a set of magnetic towing lights at harbor freight for about $20.

I tow barred my baja from Oregon to Phoenix over 1200 miles one way at 90mph! (with a safety chain of course! )

make sure you have a safety chain looped from the tow bar to the receiver.

then you are safe all the time.

There is a harbor freight on Gilbert & Southern, S.W. Corner, and another at Signal Butte & Apache Trail, also S.W. corner in the old walmart plaza.

VW Bugs have been towed for years. You used to see them tail gting Huge RV's. I'm sure that is a lot of towed miles.

Speaking of flat TOW, I need to get the tow bar done for my baja asLisa will not ride down to Chirco's in the baja agian.

PS she says it's the Bun in the Oven.

If you tow bar on a regular basis, here is a cheaper idea for lights. Get two 4-way tow connectors and lengths of wire. Wire from bug to front bumper slicing into harness for tail, stop, and turn lights. Let a connector dangle near bumper. Make a harness to attach to tow bar and end in connectors at both ends. Now you can plug bug to bar and bar to tow vehicle easily. Bug’s light now come on with tow vehicle. No more long wires to string to back of car either.

Done that, You plug my baja into the jeep like a trailer. I have a toggle switch that spilts the brake lights so that the both do not flash when you use the blinkers.

I'm having a hard time seeing the connection between "towing" and "90 mph". Shocked Cool
