Hey guys,
I just picked up a 74 bus for the tranny for my rail. It has
IRS setup already and was thinking about using the 2.0l bus
engine. It had a fuel injection fire but I quess you can con-
vert to carb. Also heard parts are expensive if I need to
replace any. Now the real question, I can buy a buddy's
84 toyota truck complete with 22re for cheap! It was
supposed to have a top end rebuild just a couple years ago.
So adapter plate, radiator, wiring, computer misc. Or go
through bus engine with no adapter plate just rebuild for carb?
How much h.p. from a bus engine and are they alright for
sand dunes?
Thanks,

thats a tough call too make, you'll have to sit a think about it. first with the toyota engine the price of a conversion plate is 420 bucks, and you dont have to run the computer unless you want to. you can also use the stock rad. until you have enough money to buy an aluminum one, also you will have to upgrade your torsions for the added weigh and weld on motor mounts. if that doesn't scare you off i say go for it...b.t.w. thats what im about to do in my rail (22r) as soon as i get it back from the machine shop... Wink

What do you mean by upgrading my torsion, just turn them
up a couple splines? Also I'll probably run 2x3 trailers to
use stock bus axles, will this harm or help the torsion issue.
Also, do you have a wiring diagram your using? and what
do I do to not use the computer?(22re) The local toyota dealers
can't help with a diagram. Welding mounts is'nt a problem.
Do you need to use a fan with your radiator?
Any pictures or more advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Coop

if you running stock torsions now you will have to install bigger ones, im going to use 28mm. no wiring diagram, i have a very knowledgeable neighbor arcoss the street that has been wrenching for 30 years. you will need a fan for the radiator also.
