Or get lifted spindles from blindchicken, when cut and turn, you have to keep it reasonable so the ball joints do not bind.

My $.02 is do IRS and ball joint. If you go big on suspension later its easy to go link pin when you tube it. I personally like the IRS just for the bus box options.

I agree with Findog, I've looked into the front end conversions and it doesn't sound too hard, You can even buy a NEW pan head for under $100. Although I did ask one of the guys at Karls about the bus box thing (I have IRS), and he made it sound like MAJOR surgery. If you know different, I'd love to hear about it.

Well yeah, $$$$$!! is why people put up with the headaches of being in business! But do you know what is involved? Things like mounting , shift rod alignment, clearences, etc.? I mean, I'm puttihg this thing together for fun. Which may include challenges, but hopefully not nightmares.

Personally I like my 74 std. 65 and earlier got the link pins, but I will leave those for the collectors. Less people will want to shot you if you cut up a 70's model. So then you don't have the guilt of "man, im cutting up a classic car" Well, you still are, but not as much. Plus I like some of the conveinces that later models have to offer and the durable door handles on the inside look good and have more of a baja taste to them I think, especially with my aluminum door panels. If you got the money know how and time, you can even convert to link pin later. I've yet to offroad my 74 but I have taken my 68 for a few spins (but with last trips flat tire, thats enough of that) and the ball joint has been pretty nice to me. Even my Toyota piloting offroad buddy who rose with me on more than one occasion was suprised how well ol' stocky held up. So ya, I'd go later model... Plus they tend to be cheaper unless you buy a non running junker or someone elses project.
