I finally got my motor finished and in. It's pretty cool. But the #4 cylinder leaks oil. I used silicone to seal it. But I remember it leak in the same spot before I took it out. So I don't know. My dad ordered floor pans a air cleaners. It still need body work, but oh well. for now I'll tune the motor and carbs.

umm...yea...silicone is my game !!!!

no really, oil will eat silicone for lunch!

silicone is an EMERGENCY fix on any engine.

wheres it leakin from?

if its the heads, torque em down.

valve covers, find some aircraft gasket maker and use it on the valve cover side (small amount) with a new cork gasket..unless you have those fangled high tech valve covers thta have to have rubber...stockers use CORK only.

Well there is no gasket that came that would fit my cylinders. I have an 1835 cc and the gasket would not fit. So the guy at this shop said he uses silicone. So I used the high heat red stuff. It leaks from the cylinder at the block.

Well I tried to put the paper gasket on and it did not fit. It was the same size as it around it wouldn't go over the cylinder.

I will take a pic tomorrow after school and put it on here. But what s weird is that it leaked in the same area before I took the motor out. Do you think I can try to put more silicone around the area?

Ok. So I have no Idea why it leaks? Other than it has a silicone for a gasket. Maybe case problem.

I had the same problem when i built my 1835. The gaskets that go between the case and the jugs need to be bigger obviously, but the gasket pack came with 1600 gaskets. I ended up tearing the gasket on the top a little bit and just used the 1600. I had a small leak on one cylinder as well, nothing that i worried about. I added oil every month or so...

I use the Permatex Super 300 gasket sealer www.permatex.com/produ...ealant.htm on EVERYTHING. In cases where you have imperfections and leaks, you can use the ultra grey silicone www.permatex.com/produ..._Maker.htm . Oil does not effect silicone, but I recomend using it sparingly. I have seen motors with so much silicone on them, that the excess drops inside the motor and clogs up the oil pickup screen.

Also if you have an issue with header/exhaust gaskets leaking, throw away the gasket and just use Ultra Copper silicone. I have used it in place of gaskets for years, and once the bolts are tight, you dont have to worry about the paper/metal collapsing over time and allowing the nuts/bolts to loosen and creating exhaust leaks.

Jeeze, looks like a freakin permatex comercial in here. Mr. Green
