Does anybody know the weight of a typical complete vw (air cooled) engine?

I know that 2 people can steal one out of your car under 10 minutes, I'm thinking around 150lb to 200lb. Me and my body are not that strong and we could install it by hand.

Thanks guys, someone was trying to sell me on the idea of Subaru power. I hear those things use radiators, and you can't use radiators for mixing adult beverages. What's the point?

Some people love water cooled engines. Subaru's can make good power, but cost a fair amount of money to install. Many other people like the Ford 2.3 litre, a lot cheaper to buy, can gets lots of power w/turbo, and others like Toyotas.

All water cooled conversions cost $$, add weight and complexity. Even though air cooled VW's are not as cheap as they once were, they are still a good bang for the buck, easy to work on and plentiful.

Actually, kidding aside, the conversion made some sense. Don't know where I'd locate the radiator though. I guess I could mount it inside the passenger compartment on really cold days. There's not really any room up front without a complete front re-fab. Like new gas tank & no sheet metal forward of the footwell. And moving the torsion tubes forward, whitch would suggest long travel suspension.... Hmmmm. Anybody interested in buying a nice used P/U truck?

Sandshark...

air or water cooled is a personal preference.

why take a very simple idea (air cooled) and turn it into a lot of work and re-engineering (water cooled)???

its not the road you take to get the result, its the fun getting there! Shocked

how many people see a H2O cooled modified classic vdub that does tricks and say " its been done before". then you have the one guy who stays aircooled and makes the crowd scream! may be with fear as the engine blows apart into many tiny hot fragments, or in delight as he lights up the desert night sky with 10ft flames from his vw twice pipes!!!

either way, youre gonna PAY to PLAY!!!

no doubt, I,ve seen cars hit so hard they actually pull the rear wheels off the ground. My decision was based soley on $$. I got lucky I guess and found my 10k mile 2.3l engine for $100. Ya gotta admit, good deal. I have nothing against air cooled. For me, it's not how you get there, it's THAT you get there.

I got my 2.3 for $200 in a used sand rail, came with tons of stuff I still have on the car , like the lights, radiator, round fuel tank etc.
