this may be a funny question, but in which order did you bleed them?

(eg. lr, rf, etc)

bleed from the farthest point from master cyl and work your way around. (right r, lr, r front, l front) maybe the massa cyl is faulty.

when you jack up a wheel and spin it by hand, how many revolutions till it stops??

should be no more than 2 or 3 max. that will tell ya if theres enough force on the shoes or not.

BRAKES 101

First thing is to pull all the drums and make sure there are no leaks. One thing folks forget is to pull back the rubber dust cover on both ends of the wheel cylinder and make sure there is no seepage, the cyinlder should be completely dry, if not they should be rebuilt or replaced. Next check the master to make sure it isnt leaking out the rear. If there are no leaks in the system, then check to see that the rod in the brake pedal is adjusted right. It should have about 1/16 of an inch play before it hits the back of the master. If its too tight, your brakes could lock up, and most likely the brake lights will never turn off. if its too loose you wont get full stopping power. Then befor you put the drums back on, make sure BOTH adjusters on each wheel are lubed and not rusted solid. Also make sure they are in correctly, there is a taper on the adjuster that needs to slope in towards the center of the backing plate. If the adjusters are in the wrong way, it can cause the wheel to lock up upon braking. AFTER all of this is checked, make sure the master cylinder is bled if you have replaced it, and then start at the farthest wheel from the master cylinder and bleed the brakes, RR, LR, RF, LF. If you still have an old master cylinder and the brakes are not working at this point, replace it. You should also check all of the rubber lines, if they are dry and cracked onthe outside, they can be damaged inside too. I have seen cases where the line is coming apart inside and will cause a restriction in fluid either coming from or returning to the master.

Hope this helps. Cool

make sure you turn out the brake adjusters. VW brakes are not self adjusting, more like owner adjusting. Have you picked up the book how to keep your VW alive for the complet idiot? if not do it, trust me it will help.
