its a pain but this can be done.

drop the dough for a racing engine and trans.

have a spare "street" engine tucked away for those days at the emissions station Wink

30 minutes and your racin again!!

tsk tsk tsk, Bajafun, you told him to break the law. It is a shame I was thinking the exact same thing. umm 2 engines for my Road Runner, one stock, one 560 hp. But with the new law as Eric pointed out a couple of months ago, if it is a recreation only car, smog doesn't matter (under certain conditions.)

So how much am I looking for a race engine and tranny? I am not trying to break and land speed records, just be able to whip all those little japper cars rolling around. as I stated before, a 13 second car. Guys I apprecieate the help as I have never built a vw motor before and i do not know what is realistic or what is fantasy. I want a legit 13 car and what it would cost, not to mention I do not what to make somthing so wild that it becomes non-reliable.

This will get you there for the engine, probably a little faster.
www.thesamba.com/vw/cl...?id=371880

I do not have a link for the trans, but probably 1000 exchange.

If you call the engine builder, let him know what you want the car to run, he will make recommendations.

I used European automotive in Phoenix for machining, he has tremendous knowledge and will point you/build you what you want. 602.685.9303 Ken.

I talked to fish down at Dougs Bugs and Bunnies. He said that this is gonna be probally a 7 8 k dollard car. He siad if you do not put in some preety heavy help to the car, you will twist the car up like a taco and just wheel hop the whole way. He did mention the 2165 with a turbo was the most sensible way to go.

Any thoughts?

1st the most you are going to get out of a 1600cc duel port motor is 150hp and it is not worth it because price is at least $6000
or a 2332cc motor est 350hp for $6000 and for a beetle 350hp is scary because stock they have at most 60hp and weigh about 1500 pounds
but the best thing to do would buy a Subaru motor which can push out about 500hp but new they cost about $12000 or you can go to a junk yard and find one ask the owner if it ran when they got it (make sure it did) buy it for about
$500 at this point it probley has 150hp for another grand you can hop it up to
400-450hp and the conversion is quite easy since the engines are about the same size and Subaru motors are flat4 like vw all you really have to do is find a place for the radiator and make sure it gets pleanty of air
they get a performance transaxle and go smoke a vet

Or, before you dump a bunch of dough into this 73, buy a '67 and older that's emissions exempt here in Maricopa county and THEN stand back and throw money at it...
