NOT LOOKING FOR CREDIT GUYS JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I KNOW A LITTLE SOMETHING !! AND A WHOLE LOT ABOUT NOTHING!!! I ONLY HOPE IT FIXES THE PROBLEM!! IT REALLY HARD TO STOP A VW WITH YOUR FEET!!

I have a 68 so my resevour is on the inner fender well. When I bench bleed do I just keep the m.c. full of fluid at all times until I pump fluid out the fittings. What about a brake bleeder. Would that possibly work rather than taking the m.c. out???

guessin you could bench bleed it while its on the car. just disconnect the brake lines from it to avoid air down line.

use the pedal to press the cyl vs a screw driver.

WHEN I BENCH BLED MINE, I CLAMPED IT IN A VICE, PUSHED IN THE PLUNGER, FILLED RESOVOR, THEN LET OUT PLUNGER A LITTLE AT A TIME MAKING CERTAIN THE RESSTAYS FULL THE WHOLE TIME,THIS WILL GET IT TO THE POINT WHERE REG BLEEDING (wheel cly) WILL WORK JUST FINE.

now i have been told of a way to change a massa cylinder without bench bleeding it first. Im not so privy to the "top secret" mechanics info yet. I just have to call my big bro and ask....

Okat I pulled off the lines and pumped the brake peddle about 12 times. I hooked everything back up and blead them again, they got a little better so then I recided to clamp the two rubber lines in the rear, after pumping on them just a few times I got the pedal to come up about half way. I then took off the vise grips and they went back to the same old shit. Also for some reason the shoes keep loosing up after I've adjusted them. I'm runnin out of ideas. Thanks again for the help!!!!

Are the tabs that hold the adjusting wheels there? Are they tight? If they are there and fit tight, the shoes should not back off! Since all the air is out of the system now, the pedal should be effected by shoe adjustment.

I wonder if your old master cyl had a residual valve in it and your new does not.

Dude, I am going through the same thing. I replaced all my wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, soft and hard lines, resivor. I did the buddy system and guess what the master cylinder is still good. Lifted up the carpet and my main hard line that runs along the tunnel inside the baja is leaking all over. I need to replace that and I should be good to go. Check it before wasting more time. Bench bleeding is a good idea, but take a look at the main line running to the rear tires. I have the front brakes good, but because that line is bad, you can't really adjust at that point. Also, you should only have 1 full tire rotation. Remember that brakes will feel spongey at first, when there done until the shoes seat in. Give that a try.

the last resort would be using the 'E" brake to stop Shocked

I DO NOT recommend it. only in emergency situations...like when youre cut off and the brakes fail Embarassed

dang pedal retainer clips....... Rolling Eyes
