I remember the days of watching the Micky Thompson stadium racing when I was a kid and I knew that's what I wanted to do.

I allways liked the look of the VW Bug,especially the wide five's.
Even though I'd like to build a rollerskate Bug someday, and would really,REALLY like to put a VW body on a 28 Model A Chassie to make a Gasser type Rod.
I've allways loved the looks of the WW2 Type 82e.
So I took my 67,lightly trimmed the lower fender where the running board was,and installed a type2 Trans redux setup.
Next will either be the raised spindles or thing arms and spindles.

Grew up watching my Dad race sprint buggies at Manzy, started watching off road races when I was 19 was hooked from then on, switched from the lowered scene to the raised when I bought my Vert Baja 12 years ago.

My very first car,,63 bug. Baja'd it out then sold it, never even got to drive it So Sad Always loved the sound of the open header of a VW. Best memory in a VW. Went to the dunes with Billy Boat and family, had a blast. He and my brother buried their rail up to the windshield. Razz

I'm with R.e.j, I've always liked the look of the wide five baja. Plus I've owned 3 bugs Embarassed since high school. I've always wanted to build a baja since I could drive. I guess it all stems around watching the off-road races too.
My first car given to me by my folks, a 73' Dodge Dart, then I wrecked it two months later. So I purchased a 66" Bug with my own hard earned money. Drove the wheels (well the pistons) off it. Been hooked ever since.

MY FIRST BUG WAS A 1961,STATION IN MENZ, GERMANY. IT HAD A BAD PAINT JOB, SO A FEW DOZEN BEERS LATER,ON A RAINY COLD DAY ,I PARKED UNDER AN OVERPASS,IN A PEACH ORCHERD, AND PAINTED IT WITH A PAINT BRUSH AND SOME BLACK ENAMEL PAINT. BEING COLD AND WET ,AND RAINNING OUT THE NEXT DAY IT DRIED ALL RINKLED. THE WHOLE CAR LOOKED LIKE I COVERED IT WITH LEATHER.DROVE IT THAT WAY FOR 3 YRS BEFORE I SHIPPED OUT. CAN,T COUNT HOW MANY SINCE!!!

I used to off road in a prerunner style Ranger and a friend had a very basic Baja that went everywhere, places all the trucks could not go. Ever since then I have had a soft spot for them. I was building a class 10 buggy that I had to sell due to divorce. One day while bored at work, I found this site and started thinking I could buy/build a toy for the same or less than a quad like my co-workers have. Then the wild hair hit, Daryll had an ad. The rest will eventually be history. I am accumulating parts for it while waiting for Daryll to get free to weld it up.

BTW, my wife hates Baja's and doesn't know about the car yet. Twisted Evil When it is done I will break it to her. (Did the same w/Road Runner, just has to look good before she sees it.)

Pattern for cars yes, divorce no. She needs someone to pay for her 6ook house and brand new BMW's. If she want to find someone else over a car, so be it.

Used to 4 wheel in trucks that I had to drive to work. Broke to much stuff.
Baja's can take more without breaking, plus they just look cool.
I did tear a fender off the first time I took mine out though.
Maybe it's just me!

Well it all started about 1986 or so. My neighbor had somebody give him a garage full of vw stuff, and he asked me to go with him to get the stuff and offered me a baja bug for helping. I was hooked after the first ride. I have owned well over 150 vws since then, and 48 since I got back into them about 2 years ago. I had about a 10 year period that I didnt mess with any, and got the bug bug again after wrecking my drag car. I fugured it would be cheaper and less dangerous to play in the desert vs going drag racing again.

Well, when I got my driver's license at age 14 in Idaho, a neighbor had a baja for sale that my dad and I test drove. I LOVED it, but after talking about it for awhile, my folks decided they didn't think it was safe enough. I've wanted one ever since (24 years?). A buddy in HS back then had a 2-seat sandrail. I've also wanted a street legal one of those ever since.

Sooooo, I almost bought a '65 perma-vert on ebay last night, but got beat, so now it looks like I'm building one. I've got two '65's at home- a 40hp/6v beater hardtop and a sunroof car that's completely disassembled. Looking like I'm going to start with that pan and go from the ground up. I want to cut the top off and have a street legal daily driver that I can throw in my toyhauler and take up in the hills in the summertime.
