Hey all,

Now that I have my VW feet wet, bought a VW, made said VW start, run, turn, stop, I was wondering how much am I looking at to make this thing pretty quick? Like high 13's low 14's? I have a 73 super with a duel port 1600. I also want to stress that not only do I want the car to run a 13, but more than one run would be nice, and also be able to stop would be good. Any info from drivetrain and up would be appreciated.

im no expert, but a 13 second full body car, stroker motor with a turbo and bullet proof tranny to start with is a good beginning...

Any ideas on cost?? Are my looking at 2 4 6 G? just a guess would help me decide if this is a direction I want to go.

a stroker engine runs about $2000 or more

call Chirco in Tucson...

turbo runs about $1000 to install. if you can alocate a turbo housing from an import (toy, maz, nis..) then you either pipe or pay someone to pipe it all in. then powder coat it. the intercololer can be retrieved from the same import car.

if ya got 5g's, then ya have a good start Wink

it's all in the setup, a local guy has a 1955 with w120 cam and 1:25 ratio rockers, 043 ported heads with 40x35 valves and 44 idf's....he ran 14.1 last year and will probably get in the 13's this year. Those are good times for a mildly build engine under 2 liter....I'd say you'd want to go stroker, probably around the 2110 to 2276 area......then you won't have to rap it out to 8000rpm to get power. The rest you'll have to do research on...cams, heads, carbs, exhaust, etc. .... that's half the fun. Do searches on many forums and take notes....maybe find an engine builder to help you out too.

my 59 had a 2007cc stroker (90.5mm piston and 74mm stroke)with a 110 cam, stock heads, and dual kad 40's built from a 1973 stock 1600 dp.

on good says and tires smaller than 31", it was nice!

on the freeway, i could always find power!!


ran stock swing axle too.

I just got my new engine in.
It runs really strong, even with the 31's on the back and stock 4:12 gearing.

specs.
2276 (94x82)
cima pistions
scat crank and stock length rods (with 3/8" rod bolts)
dual relief case tapped for full flow
FK 44 cam
cb 1.4 ratio rockers
cb lightweight lifter 28mm
drd 043 L6 ported heads with 42x37 valves
44 weber idf's with 38mm vents
30mm pump
72 pass messa cooler with fan.

ok a little update from the noobie:

I have had my fun, and probally will always love the muscle car builds. I wanted to try something different and volla a bettle came into my life. I have gone both ways when putting a new engine in a car. the " there is no replacement for displacement" theory, meaning instead of going semi wild with a 350, opted for the 454. but i have also done a couple of fairly wild 350's. I would not say that I prefer one or the other, or that one is better than the other. But that brings me to my point(finally) should I try to take the 1600 i have and soup it up, or go ahead and get the bigger bore? I am would like to have something that can more than hold its own. As I stated earier, I would like to get a 13, 14 second bug. The motor that i have is a 1600 duel port that runs decent, but will probally need to be pulled apart if I try to go any more than mild with her. I am also interested in a turbo. Or I can take that motor out and go and get a larger bore. I would liek to hear from some of the guys that have a street car now, so i can judge off of their exp. with the aprox. same gearing, tire size ect. Thansk for all the help and any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated.

scotter, if you want to go to the dark side, you can go water pumper for alot cheaper and more dependable. i've seen ford 2.3's turbos for under 500 bucks or you can go toyota 22r for alittle more money. if you turbo 2.3 make sure your tranny is strong enough to handle the h.p. and torque.... I just got off the phone with Bill down at Karls, actually preety helpful. But he did nto tell me what i was hoping for. Said that if this is a street car, which it is, that i will pro have problems with emmisions if i go larger than a 1940. said will prob have about 80 hp and aprox 17 quarter mile time. said will cost aprox 500.00 ANy thoughts on this? thanks again guys
