Hey there everyone. After I get my bug driving again, I plan on starting my Baja project. First what I want to do are an engine build and a transmission rebuild. First off, I don't really see myself doing very much off-road driving living around Seattle and all, but in the case that I do, I want to ask a few things. How can I beef up the engine and transmission for off road driving? Specifically, how can I properly seal things off for dirt and dust? Maybe it would also help if I talked about the kind of engine I want to build. I am going to build pretty much a stock 1600 dual port, so if there is any way I can make it stronger...

I don't know to much about making the "engine" stronger for the jolts and bangs from offroading, but, I know how to make the engine compartment safer.

Skidplates, and steel tubing. I once ripped off the entire oil plate on a rock. So you don't want to do that. Ever.

Make sure your pushrod tubes are protected to, they're about as durable as a toilet paper tube so you can crush and bend them easily.
