ever since i've gotten my bug it's had a problem of draining the battery when it isnt running. when i bought the car i put this disconnect knob on the battery.

you twist it loose and it disconnects the battery so it isn't draining.

my question is is there any switch i could wire to the dash that i could use to switch the battery on or off? it sucks having to climb into the back every time to turn it on or off. i dont know much about electrical so any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
tyler

WOW. Not good.
To answer your question you could wire a switch to the main feed to the fuse block. That would eliminate pretty much everything but the starter.
Long term, I would try to get some one to help you find the drain on the battery. It could be a fire hazard waiting to happen if it's a hot wire grounding out.

How long does it take to run down? Over night, weekend, etc..

i can safely leave the battery on if i'm just driving over to a friends house to hang out for a couple hours, but i'd be afraid to leave it on for more than two nights. i might have my vw guy down the street see if he can find the drain, and if not, just wire a switch to the fuse block feed like you said. thanks for the input

Now, this sounds a little funny you wire a switch to turn the battery off...Once you have now power how do you turn the battery back on?

Think about it...:)
