Those bumpers kick arse! Just adapt a light bar to your rack and you are set. Excellent job! Laughing

Do it! Put the flatback kit on it as well!

It has the IRS 4 bolt VW pattern. I dropped the bug off last night and should have it back on Saturday.

I got a sneak peak of the side bars he made at my request. I wanted tube side bars with expanded steel on them. He sent me the photo from his phone. I will get the bug back tonight and take some pictures this weekend.

I found a new German original style exhaust at the Bugarama for $40. Score! Picked up a set of adjusters for Dirtjunkie to install and some door handles with keys. I put the exhaust on and it appears to be much higher than the old header and quietpack. I hope to have it lifted soon and then paint another coat of bedliner on it by the end of April. Oh ya, the pinging is now gone.

I need some advise on exhaust. The stock exhaust has pulled some of the "pep" away from the little engine. My options are limited since the engine is based on a 40hp and a 1600 exaust and header won't fit...that means no thing header. So, I still have the header and quietpack that hung down low. I'm thinking of putting the header back on and buying a hideaway muffler that tucks it in by the passenger tire. I think that will get it up higher. Does anyone have experience with these mufflers? Any thoughts? Daryll? Perri? Tony? Eric? Anyone?

Header, u-bend, muffler tucked underneath and a good skid plate.

I haven't driven my bug much over the summer due to the heat. I have a buddy that is borrowing it, so it is getting driven each day. As a result, I've had to replace the rear wheel bearings and plug wires that failed. The bug is a 3rd vehicle for me, and since I traded in my Silverado, we are without any kind of vehicle that can haul something to the dump or from Home Depot. That got me thinking...

I could sell it and pick up a little truck that would allow me to tote stuff around items. Or I can hang onto the bug and convert it to a flatbed. Some of you may remember that I had bought a flatback kit and was going to convert my bug to a flatbed earlier in the year. I sold the fiberglass flatback kit to Dirtjunkie, and opted to make the bug like a class 11 military bug.

I am thinking of going back to the flatbed design again though. Except I think I will have the kit made out of metal. My bug has a Bugzylla 3" body lift on it, which would provide stiffness for the pan. When I cut through the roof, I will run into the wiring. That sucks since I had Daryll completely re-wire it. I can use connectors though to repair it. I'm thinking of cutting the body well past the pillar, which will give it an extended cab. But I don't think I could have a side window in the extended area. I imagine I would have a panel welded in the void. I may also have the sides cut low enough so that the flatbed doesn't stick up as high as the flatback kit did.

Anyone have any ideas on the topic?
